Dolphin Project

Dolphin Project is the world’s leading charity dedicated to the welfare and protection of dolphins. Founded by Richard (Ric) O’Barry on Earth Day, 22nd April 1970, the organisation aims to educate the public about captivity and, where feasible, retire and/or release captive dolphins. Visit dolphinproject.com to learn more about their work.

Life Investigation Agency, LIA (Japan)

Life Investigation Agency (LIA) was established in 2010 by Director Ren Yabuki (pictured). LIA is an independent campaigning organisation to investigate, expose, inspire and campaign against the illegal trade in wildlife, illegal logging and trade of timber species, the destruction of our natural environment and the abuse of animals. Visit LIA here to learn more and find out how you can offer your support. You can watch Ren reading my book in Japanese at Taiji’s infamous Cove here.

Sea Shepherd

Sea Shepherd is an international, non-profit marine conservation organisation that campaigns to defend, conserve and protect the world's ocean. They have been campaigning for dolphins since their inception in 1977, including work opposing the slaughter and capture of dolphins in Taiji, Japan. Sea Shepherd also work to remove many threats to dolphins from the ocean such as plastic pollution and discarded fishing gear, and campaign against illegal, unregulated and unreported (IUU) fishing. They expose the mass killing of dolphins as by-catch on France's west coast in the fishing industry, and combat climate change by fighting the expansion of the fossil fuel industry, preserving vital dolphin habitat.

World Animal Protection

World Animal Protection campaigns globally to stop dolphins suffering a lifetime in captivity for entertainment. Their aim is to make the current generation of captive dolphins the last. Use this link to find out more about World Animal Protection and their work to end the keeping of dolphins and marine animals in captivity.

Humane Society International (HSI)

Humane Society International opposes the captivity of dolphins for use in entertainment facilities globally. Many bottlenose and common dolphins are also killed in shark nets on the Australian coastlines, and HSI is campaigning to end these shark culling programs. HSI also campaigns for stronger domestic policies to protect our dolphin populations from the threat of marine debris and fishing operations where they are caught and killed in nets as by-catch. Learn more at hsi.org.au.

OceanCare

OceanCare supports the work by Japanese NGOs to raise awareness and to stimulate public discourse within Japan. Further, the organisation is working within international fora towards a global ban on the catch and killing of dolphins, as well as on the trade of dolphin meat. Find out more about them and their important work at oceancare.org
